Johnson Hardware recently expanded its popular line of soft-open/soft-close sliding door hardware with the introduction of the 2066 Soft-Close Kit.  This new kit has all the features and benefits of the original 1060 Soft-Close kit, with one major advantage: it can support extra-heavy doors weighing up to 330 lbs. “Our commercial customers were looking for soft-closing hardware capable of handling their hefty sliding door installations.  Our new 2066 is ideal for commercial installations, such as multifamily dwellings and hospitality properties,” explains Nathan Johnson, Sales and Operations Manager at Johnson Hardware. “It’s also perfect for single-family homes where builders, architects or designers have specified the installation of heavy solid-core doors.”

The 2066 Soft-Close Kit is compatible with Johnson Hardware’s entire line of 200 Series I-Beam Track sets and the newly re-designed 2020 Door Hanger. The unique, four-wheel design of the 2020 Door Hanger features Quick Connect holes, which speeds installation and allows for easy attachment of the 2066 soft-close kit.

The new 2020 hanger version has shipped with all 200 Series pocket door frames and sliding door hardware sets since January 2022. The previous 2020 hanger model without quick-connection holes is not compatible with 2066 Soft-Close hardware.

When used in single-direction, soft-operation pocket-door installations (soft-close only), 2066 Soft-Close accommodates doors with a minimum width of 24 in. For bi-directional, soft-operation pocket doors (soft-close and soft-open), the doors must be at least 32 in. wide.

The kit can also be used for wall-mount (a.k.a.: barn door) and bypass installations, accommodating single-direction, soft-operation doors that are at least 20 in. wide, and bi-directional, soft-operation doors with a minimum width of 28 in.

Here’s how the soft open/soft close mechanism works: When the door is slid open and is within about 2 inches of the side jamb, the door automatically—and slowly and silently—glides on its own to the fully opened position. And when the door is pulled closed and is within 2 inches of the fully closed position, the soft-close mechanism automatically engages and the door glides to a stop.

The mechanism works effortlessly and smoothly, prevents pinched fingers between the door and the jamb, all while significantly reducing noise. Door slamming and bouncing that can occur with sliding doors is eliminated, reducing wear and tear on your door and jamb.

The 2066 Soft-Close Kit contains a single mechanism for a soft operation in a single direction. When installing two converging doors with soft-open and close operation like in the bunk bedroom shown above, you’ll need to purchase four kits (two 2066 kits for each door). Each kit contains an actuator arm, dampener, track stop-block, adjustment wrench, and a steel connection pin for secure attachment to the 2020 door hanger.

2066 Soft-Close is compatible with 2000 and 2060 Series Pocket Door Frames and 200PD, 200BP, 200MP, 200MD, 200SD, 200SM, 200WM, and 200WF Series hardware sets. For installation instructions, click here.
